NewsIsra & Me’raj ProgramAlhamdulillah, our Isra & Me’raj Program held on Sunday, the 19th July, 2009 from Asr to Maghrib. Br. Abdelghani was the Speaker. He spoke on the significance and the lessons of the night journey of Holy Prophet from the Holy Mosque (in Makkah) to the farther Mosque (in Jerusalem). Indeed it was heart warming speech. Summer Program—2009 Alhamdulillah, Our six week Summer Program has provided our youth an excellent opportunity to learn & understand Islam. The program includes basic courses in Islamic studies, Qur’anic studies, Seerah & Hadith, Daily Fiqh, Islamic Manners, Cooking, Sewing and field trips. May Allah bless the program and all the participants. A’meen! One More Hafiz Alhamdulillah, we have one more Hafiz Qur’an. Hafiz Mohammad Adil Lal. He has just completed the memorization of the entire al-Qur’an. MashaAllah! Well done Hafiz Adil Lal! Congratulations! Congratulations also to his family and his teachers! May Allah (SWT) make him an excellent Da’ee ilallah! Ameen! Sunday School Reopening Another Summer comes to an end and our children go back to school. For Islamic Education the Center, for thirty four years, has had a highly acclaimed Sunday School. Registration & Classes for the new school year will begin Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Every student, new or former, must register. Please enroll on time and help us educate our children. Teachers & Volunteers needed for our future leaders. Muslim Center Director Retires from July 1, 2009 Dear Brothers & Sisters, Assalam u alaikum Warahmatullah e wabarakatuh! All praise is due to Allah S.W.T., Who has allowed me to serve you for the last seventeen years as the Director of MCNY. InshaAllah, I will be retiring from July 1, 2009. I am extremely grateful to Almighty Allah S.W.T. for giving me this opportunity to serve the Center and the community. Alhamdulillah, I was fortunate enough to be one of the founding Members of Muslim Center of New York in 1975. Since then I have been blessed to serve the cause of Islam and our Community. Allah S.W.T. has allowed me to accomplish a great deal, however the Center and its achievements will always be first in my heart. I thank and pray to Allah S.W.T. to bless all, (especially Br. Ebrahim Lunat & Br. Alatf Ahmad, who passed away and Br. Naveed Anwar who moved to Pakistan), members of the E.C. & B.O.T; and the Community at large for having the trust in me to be the Center’s Director. I also thank Mrs. Farooqi, Principal J .H. School, all staff members , all the teachers, all the volunteers, Brother Faisal Akhtar and above all my community for full support and wonderful co-operation throughout these years. All modesty apart, I tried my level best to serve the cause of Islam and serve the community sincerely and seriously to the best of my ability, knowledge, passion and judgment. Muslim Center of New York Condemns Mumbai Terrorist Attacks (New York, November 26, 2008) The Muslim Center of New York located at Geranium Avenue, Flushing, Queens, condemned the series of terrorist attacks that took place in Mumbai, India. According to media reports, over 125 people were killed and several hundred people were injured in this horrific attack. In a statement today, Dr. Khurshid Khan, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, said: “We strongly condemn this heinous crime and despicable attacks that took place in Mumbai, India. Indeed, terrorists have no religion even though they sometimes use the name of a religion to justify their carnage. They are in fact the enemies of humanity. We pray and hope that those responsible for this brutality would be identified and brought to justice in the immediate future. The total construction cost of the project is estimated to be 2.2 million dollars. The construction is already under way and the 25 feet deep and 50’ x 100’ basement—multipurpose gymnasium walls have already constructed. The building construction is only half completed and all funds have been used up. Funds are now desperately needed to continue the construction.
